7 Travel Lessons Learned in 2020

  1. Be flexible. This has always been something to keep in mind while traveling but I’d say that 2020 took this lesson to new heights. Trips were canceled or postponed, there was disappointment, and things did not go as planned but we still had a wonderful year. By not holding tight to only one set of plans and possibilities, we are able to discover new ideas and find greater peace.

  2. Get creative. Even if we couldn’t travel far from home in 2020, we could get creative about bringing travel lessons and experiences to our family. We reminisced about past trips, cooked recipes from favorite destinations, explored places close to home, and followed travel account to get a glimpse into new places.

  3. Time together is more important than the destination. Yes, Paris is amazing but so are things that are a quick drive from your house. Focusing on time together is what made this year special.

  4. Get outdoors. There are so many wonderful things to explore that are outside and away from big crowds of people. Hiking, botanical gardens, arboretums, National Parks, and more are waiting to be explored!

  5. Road trips! There is a lot you can explore that is only a car ride away. Pull out a map and discover a new place that is only a short car ride away. If won’t matter that it’s not far from home. Getting out and exploring together as a family is the priority.

  6. Be grateful for past and future opportunities. Have fun thinking about past trips and planning big future trips. Our gratitude will be high when we finally get to go on those big trips that we’ve been planning for so long. Look back on photos from past trips and enjoy those memories together.

  7. There is so much good even when there are trials. Not a fun lesson but its true. This year was tough on so many levels but there is still good. Canceled trips are only a small bump in the road.

Although I don’t want to live through 2020 again, I am thankful for the lessons and reminders the experiences this year have given me. Our travel life will move forward and I’m excited about the possibilities.
