10 Days in Morocco: The Perfect Couples Itinerary
In this episode, we chat with Azdean Elmoustaquim of Destinations Morocco to uncover what makes Morocco such a magical destination for couples. Together we walk through a dreamy 10-day itinerary filled with ancient cities, desert adventures, incredible food, and unforgettable cultural experiences. If Morocco is on your bucket list, this conversation will definitely move it to the top!
Why Morocco Makes an Incredible Couples Trip
Morocco sits at the crossroads of Africa and Europe, blending cultures, landscapes, and history in the most beautiful ways. According to Azdean:
It’s one of the most diverse countries in the world! There are mountains, desert, ocean, vibrant cities, and ancient ruins.
You can experience deep history and UNESCO World Heritage sites around every corner.
It’s home to the oldest university in the world.
It’s incredibly accessible, especially from major U.S. cities with direct flights.
Day 1: Arrive in Casablanca
Most travelers fly into Casablanca because it’s the biggest hub with the most flight options. Azdean’s team handles everything from the moment you land—driver, local guides, accommodations, experiences.
Highlights of Casablanca:
Visit the breathtaking Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world
Explore the oceanfront Corniche
Enjoy a romantic dinner overlooking the Atlantic
Stop at Rick’s Café for classic Casablanca vibes
Day 2: Rabat to Chefchaouen
Leaving Casablanca, you’ll head north for a full but exciting day of sightseeing.
Stops include:
Rabat, Morocco’s capital, with its kasbah, mosques, and historic monuments
Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl,” a dreamy blue-washed mountain town perfect for photos and wandering
Day 3-4: Fes
Fes is Morocco’s oldest imperial city and feels like stepping centuries back in time. Its medina has 10,000 narrow streets, so a local guide is essential.
Things you’ll get to explore:
The world-famous tanneries
Pottery and mosaic workshops
Ancient universities and madrasas
Jewish Quarter (Mellah)
King’s Palace (viewed from outside)
A traditional riad stay which includes intimate, historic Moroccan homes with courtyards, fountains, and tilework
If you want to take a cooking class, Fes is an amazing place for it, since you shop the daily fresh markets alongside your hosts.
Day 5: Scenic Travel Day Toward the Desert
To reach the Sahara, you'll split the drive over two days with gorgeous stops:
The alpine town of Ifrane (“the Switzerland of Morocco”)
A walk through the Cedar Forest with resident macaque monkeys
Lunch with a Berber family
The apple-growing town of Midelt
Canyon views in Dades Valley
This day is filled with constantly changing scenery—mountains, forests, desert plains, and more.
Day 6–7: Sahara Desert + Merzouga
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for… the Sahara! This part of the trip is consistently one of travelers’ favorite memories.
Evening Arrival:
Get dressed in your desert scarf (for photos and sandstorms)
Ride camels into the dunes at sunset
Watch the sky turn gold as you approach your luxury desert camp
Enjoy mint tea, live drumming, fire dancing, and a traditional dinner
Sleep in a beautifully furnished desert tent
Daytime Activities:
Sunrise star-gazing (the sky here is unreal)
Visit nomadic families and learn about their way of life
Explore nearby fossil sites
Listen to live Gnawa music in Khamliya village
Ride quads or 4x4s on the dunes
Day 8: Ait Ben Haddou + Ouarzazate
As you make your way toward Marrakech, you’ll stop at two iconic places:
Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar used as a filming location for Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and more
Ouarzazate, Morocco’s “Hollywood,” home to film studios and movie museums
These desert fortresses and kasbahs feel straight out of another era.
Day 9–10: Marrakech
Marrakech is Morocco’s vibrant, colorful, energetic heart—and a must-visit.
Top things to do:
Cooking class in a farm with fresh ingredients picked straight from the garden
Food tasting tour through the medina
Relaxing hammam + spa experience
Hot air balloon ride over the desert
Visit Jemaa el-Fnaa, the largest square in Africa
Tour the YSL Gardens, palaces, and mosques
Explore night markets, rooftop restaurants, and live music
Marrakech is endlessly vibrant, making it a perfect grand finale to your Moroccan adventure.
Best Time to Visit Morocco
According to Azdean, the ideal seasons are:
March–June: Perfect weather, fewer crowds than summer.
Mid-September–early December: Comfortable temperatures and great travel conditions.
Avoid: July–August: Very hot + extremely crowded due to summer holidays.
This itinerary blew me away. Morocco offers such a rich blend of history, food, adventure, and natural beauty. Whether you're wandering ancient streets, cooking traditional meals, or riding camels through the Sahara, it truly feels like the trip of a lifetime.
