Is a family camp the right vacation for you? It could be a great option for a family reunion or meeting up with friends. All of the activities are organized for you plus all meals are planned and prepared and all you have to do is show up and enjoy them.

When families learn new things together, it bonds them.

What is a family camp?

It is a structured camp experience where families can book a long weekend of full-week in cabins, tents, or similar accommodations. It includes many outdoor activities, crafts, campfire programs, meals, and more.

Why would I want to attend a family camp?

This is a great vacation option for families looking to get some time away together out in nature. It’s a low-stress style of vacation where all of the daily activities are organized for you and you just get to decide which activities suit your interests. All of the meals are prepared for you too.

Family camps are a great location for family reunions or trips with friends. Since most of the work and planning is done for you, you can just enjoy spending quality time with your loved ones.

It could even become a family tradition to attend family camp. Joanne’s family has a very long history with attending family camps. Here’s a photos showing her husband's great grandparents and grandma at Berkeley Tuolomne Camp (that they helped build) in 1937.

How does a family camp help foster independence in children?

In the safe family camp environment, kids can explore without their parents hovering right around them. They can attend classes that interest them, meet new friends, and maybe even go an buy ice cream without mom or dad.

Things to Pack for Family Camp

Bedding: Be sure to know what type of accommodations you will be staying in so that you know if you need to bring bedding along with you.

Snacks: Although there are three great meals every day, you may want to bring along a few of your favorite snacks and beverages.

Closed toes shoes: Camp is not really a place for sandals.

Bug Repellant and Sunscreen

Layers: The evening will likely be cool while daytime temperatures could be warm.
