Importance of Exploring New Places

There is so much value in learning about new cultures and places. It helps us and our kids gain a greater understanding of others. It is insightful to learn about new languages, cultures, ideas, and traditions. As we teach our kids about the world, they will hopefully learn to be more accepting and loving towards others.

Ways to Learn About the World From Home

  • Let the kids choose places they would like to learn about.

  • Teach kids how to look up information online about new destinations.

  • Use books you have at home or visit a library to find non-fiction books about new places and fiction stories that take place in other countries.

  • Incorporate a variety of learning opportunities with dance, movies, music, language, games, maps, food, crafts, and home decor.

  • Plan a full day to learn all you can about a new place. Or you could spread it out over a week or more.

  • Check out Melissa’s lesson plans she created for Japan, Mexico, Italy, France, England, and Fiji. She’s done all of the work for you and included many downloadable and printable pages for you to use at home.
