Our family has found many free and fun things to do while on vacation and I’m sharing 12 of my favorites with you today!

  1. Go on a nature scavenger hunt. No matter where you are, you can go on a fun hunt for things in your area. Here is a great picture scavenger hunt for young kids and another nature scavenger hunt that is great for kids who can read. Both of those are free!

  2. Do yoga. Pull up a Yoga with Tim workout on YouTube and enjoy some exercise together. This can be done almost anywhere.

  3. Go on a bike ride. Ask your hotel or Airbnb if they provide free bikes. If not, you could rent them.

  4. Play games! I’ve recently discovered Bananagrams and think it’s the perfect travel game. It’s compact and fun for ages 7+. Also, you can never go wrong with a simple deck of cards.

  5. Go on a picnic. Since you will need to eat anyway, make it more magical by eating outdoors on a blanket.

  6. Toss a frisbee or fly a kite. Bring along a frisbee or kite from home and finally put it to use while you are on vacation.

  7. Build a fort or a sand castle. This will provide hours of creative entertainment.

  8. Go on a hike. This is one of my favorite things to do because it’s active ald let’s everyone enjoy time in nature.

  9. Host a family Olymipics. Choose games that work best for your group: crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, lip syncs, card games, Spikeball, football toss, or races.

  10. Make a collection. Seashells, rocks, or leaves are free and fun to find.

  11. Have a glow dance party. Break out some glow sticks, turn off the lights, and turn on some tunes.

  12. Go to a local festival or farmers market'. Many places have free community events. Check local calendars to discover what is going on while you are visiting.
