Where in the World Should You Go Next? 5 Inspiration Destinations
Traveling is more than checking boxes, it’s about stories, connections, and surprising moments! Join us to chat with globetrotter R.C. Hand, who’s visited over 100 countries. In this episode he shares five destinations that aren’t just beautiful, but stopped him in his tracks!
Antarctica
If you’re looking to really get off the beaten path, add Antarctica to the list! Antarctica is often thought of as one of the most remote and inaccessible destinations, but for those who make the journey, it’s an incredible experience.
Most trips depart from Argentina, crossing some of the most stunning blue waters you’ll ever see.
Travelers can spot penguins, seals, and other wildlife.
The animals here, much like in the Galapagos, aren’t afraid of humans. Penguins may even tug on your pant leg out of curiosity!
Take part in the famous “polar plunge” into icy waters.
Small ship cruises allow for intimate experiences, including landing onshore to explore historic sites and see penguins up close.
For anyone looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure, Antarctica offers unforgettable landscapes and once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounters.
Easter Island
Although R.C. didn’t get to set foot on Easter Island due to a last-minute itinerary change, it remains high on his recommendation list.
Famous for its massive Moai statues, Easter Island continues to reveal new secrets as archaeologists uncover how deeply these statues extend underground and what may have led to the collapse of the island’s ancient society.
Travel tip: fly in rather than arriving by cruise ship.
Bad weather can make disembarking from ships tricky, but flights are far more reliable and ensure you don’t miss the chance to explore this mysterious island.
North Korea
North Korea may not be on most people’s travel lists, but R.C. and his wife experienced it firsthand.
Visiting requires going through China and joining an official tour with government-appointed guides. The experience is highly controlled!
Expect government guides (minders) with you at all times.
Highlights included:
Pyongyang’s unusual state department store (selling everything from tractors to clothing).
Touring deep Soviet-built subway stations.
Experiencing life with limited electricity and traffic.
Photography is restricted, but R.C. noted the chance for rare glimpses of everyday life.
Japan
Japan is a country that blends ancient traditions with modern wonders, and according to R.C., you could spend a lifetime exploring it and still not see everything. He’s visited multiple times, often staying with lifelong Japanese friends.
Highlights include:
Cherry blossom festival.
Ancient temples in Nara.
A live ninja performance.
Bustling Tokyo alongside peaceful countryside towns.
Easy to explore with Japan’s efficient train system.
Japan’s culture is deeply rich and unique, making it a destination that appeals to history buffs, food lovers, and adventure seekers alike.
Australia
Australia offers a little bit of everything! Iconic cities, stunning coastlines, and rugged outback adventures are available throughout the country!
Sydney highlights:
Climb the Harbor Bridge (even if you’re afraid of heights).
Visit the Sydney Opera House. Book tickets AT the theater for better seats.
Outback adventures:
See Uluru (Ayers Rock).
Take a sunrise hot air balloon ride over kangaroos and wild horses.
Ocean lovers: explore the Great Barrier Reef.
R.C. and his wife often bring small gifts for local children when traveling.
From icy Antarctica to bustling Tokyo, these five destinations highlight the wide range of experiences the world has to offer. Traveling is all about stepping out of your comfort zone, connecting with people, and creating memories you’ll carry for a lifetime.
