Outdoor Spaces

Wyoming is the perfect place to roam and enjoy time outdoors. It offers many fantastic opportunites for families to explore outside. Here’s a look at four places Piper says you should not miss on your Wyoming vacation. I’m sharing the highlights of our podcast conversation here. For more details and in-depth details, be sure to listen to this episode.

  1. National Parks. Wyoming is home to two stunning National Parks: Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Fun fact: Did you know that Yellowstone was the very first US National Park? With endless hikes, beautiful scenery, unique geysers and so much more, you won’t want to miss spending time at both of these parks.

  2. Devil’s Tower National Monument. Beautiful place to camp, hike, and stargaze. Gateway cities where you may want to stay if you are not camping are Sundance and Gillette.

  3. Natural Hot Springs. There are several sites with hot springs spread throughout the state. Hot Springs State Park in Thermolopois is one of the sites Piper recommends. Not only does Thermopolis have the natural hot springs (one public pool and two private pools), but it also has a good possibility of seeing bison.

  4. Rodeo. Wyoming is the Cowboy State, so it’s not a surprise that they have many opportunities to attend rodeos. The biggest rodeo is held during Cheyenne Frontier Days but you can find rodeos in almost every town in the state during the summer.

Visit These Cities

Sheridan, Wyoming. Near the Big Horn Mountains, King Saddlery Museum, Eaton Guest Ranch.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Year-round fun. Skiing, hiking, wildlife viewing tours, shop in the town square, plus the best culinary in the state.

Cody, Wyoming. Founded by Buffalo Bill. Buffalo Bill Center of the West.

Long Weekend Itinerary

Fly into Denver, Colorado, and drive to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Attend Cheyenne Frontier Days, plus enjoy eateries and museums while you are there.

Then drive west to Laramie, Wyoming to visit the University of Wyoming, and enjoy visiting the shops in the town center.

Visit Vedauwoo Recreation Area and then the Wyoming Territorial State Prison where Butch Cassidy was an inmate.

Wrapping It Up

There is something to do year-round in Wyoming. If you are a snow bunny, consider visiting in the winter. If you want to see a rodeo, come in the summer. Crowds are highest in the summer. Spring or fall can be a great time to visit the national parks as the weather is still nice and the crowds will be less.

Wyoming is the 10th largest state and the least populated state.

It’s home to the first dude ranch.

In Wyoming, the outdoors is always in your back pocket.
