Why I'm Going to Poland to Help Refugees and How You Can Help Too

It’s a rare occurrence that an opportunity is presented and I have an overwhelming feeling that I need to do it. This happened to me last week when I received a text from my cousin, Jana, telling me that she was thinking about going to Poland to help refugees next month and she wanted to know if I wanted to join her. Immediately I knew that I needed to go. But honestly, I fought that feeling. I’ll tell you more about that in this podcast episode while I also share what we will be doing in Poland and how you can help us help Ukrainian refugee women and children. This is all about sharing an upcoming travel experience, unlike anything I’ve done before.

Why Go to Poland to Help Refugees?

I’ve been asked why I don’t focus my service efforts close to home. My answer is that I feel strongly that I should go to Poland and find ways to serve the women and children of Ukrainian refugees. It’s only for one week. That is such a small drop of time! I feel grateful that I have the resources of time and money to make this happen right now. The good news is that there will also be many opportunities close to home where I can serve others too!

What Will Be Accomplished While Helping Refugees in Poland?

We are going to support the efforts of Reach Humanity but I think we will be on our own to find ways to help. We can go to the train station to help with any needs of refugees. We can ride in vans to the Ukrainian border to help befriend refugees and bring them to safety in Krakow, we can help renovate apartments in Krakow for incoming refugees. We will be giving out supplies that we collect before leaving for Poland. We can play with the children to give the exhausted moms a break. Basically, we will be on the lookout for needs and do our best to fill them.

How Can You Help?

You can donate to @reachhumanity or you can donate directly to me so I can buy supplies to bring with me on my trip. I am leaving on May 11, 2022, so any direct donations to me need to be received by May 9. You can donate to @lisaandrews on Venmo. I plan to purchase electrolyte packets, snacks, crafts to do with the kids plus any other item I see that I think will be helpful.
