5 Simple Ways to Save Money on Your Family Vacations

  1. Be smart when booking! Use free price trackers, consider flexible dates, and book direct. If you book direct, you can build up loyalty with brands so that you can earn free points, nights, or flights. Most hotels will price match the prices on booking sites.

  2. Use a strong travel credit card and earn free travel on normal everyday spending to help offset your costs. You can also use these cards to get free bags, rental cars, and flights. Be sure that you plan to pay off the credit card each month to avoid paying interest and fees. If you pay these extra amounts, it wipes out any travel benefits you will get by using the card. Use Travel Freely to help you decide which credit card is best for you. Don’t miss Kam’s webinar on April 12, 2022! It’s all about the best ways to make rewards travel work for you!

  3. Look for some amazing free activities at your destination and work them into your itinerary. Talk them up with your family, and make them part of the experience for your kids. Think about parks, free museum days, and more.

  4. Decide before leaving on your trip what your daily spending budget is and keep track! Set budgets with your kids as well so that everyone has clear expectations. You could buy kids’ a gift card to use at a destination for treats or souvenirs. It’s a great way to work on budgeting skills.

  5. Buy local groceries or bring a few snacks along. Splurge on lunches but try to keep your other meals cheap and healthy. For example, eat yogurt, fruit, and granola in the morning or free hotel breakfast. Enjoy a big lunch while eating out, and then a small bite to eat at a street vendor or quick service place.
