While on our week-long spring break family vacation, I observed and learned a few things along the way and I’m excited to share them with you today!

General Tips for Traveling During the COVID Pandemic

  • Buy a big pack of disposable masks before your trip. This way you can throw them out after each wear and you will always have plenty on hand. I bought these black disposable masks and divided them into big baggies for each member of our family. Each person was in charge of refreshing their masks throughout the day.

  • Small hand sanitizer for each family member.

  • Plan to have your temperature checked about some locations.

  • Everywhere we went, people were respectful of the guidelines. If you don’t want to wear a mask on a plane or out in public, then right now is not the time for your to travel that way.

  • Most people seemed focused on cleanliness. Lots of hand sanitizer stations and I saw them being used often,

Airports and Airplanes

  • The security lines seemed shorter than a year ago and were very efficient.

  • The airports were very busy. Plan on being around a lot of people.

  • You self-scan your boarding pass at security and your phone will likely touch the scanning screen. Plan on sanitizing your phone after the scan.

  • The TSA agents all touched our driver’s licenses. Not a big deal to me but good to know what to expect.

  • No beverage service on flights. We were given a small water and a little bag of pretzels in a bag right after we boarded. Plan to bring your own water and snacks.

  • Airlines say the air is filtered ofter on airplanes. Hoping for the best!

Restaurant Observations

  • Expect long waits as most are not seating at maximum capacity. Many tables are kept empty.

  • Make a reservation if you are able.

  • Plan to scan a QR code to view the menu. You can use the camera on your phone. Just open the camera, point it at the QR code as if you are going to take a photo, look for the notification link to pop up on your screen and tap it to go to the menu.

Hotel Tips and Observations

  • Find a place that has a washer and dryer in the unit. Wyndham timeshare is a great place to look. You do not need to own any timeshare points to book there. Or check out Airbnb options.

  • Plan on some amenities being closed. Check ahead if these things are important to you. (Pools, gyms, activity centers, etc.)
